Differences between Commander Wars and the official games
What the differences between Commander Wars (COW) to official games (AW1-4)
There is so many differences gameplay mechanics from the official Advance Wars Titles.
Gameplay differences
The differences between COW & official AW games there are many gameplay mechanics that have original AW mechanics, such as Co zone by boarding (AW4), Power meter increase CO zone (AW4) & ects, but I will explain each gameplay mechanics by this *
- Transport units drop their loads off & can move, while Original AW titles have your transport units drop off & ending their turn.
- Units have difference damage values try to mimic or copy the original AW damage value. (1-3 to 4)
- Naval units can move & fire, while original AW mainly 1-3 you have to make your battleship stand still & fire like other indirects, while AW 4 change Battleship can move & fire.
- You can command Black Hole factory & The Nest, while Original AW 2-4 doesn't allow you to do that.
- All of Original AW CO's still have their d2d, Co zone & abilities while COW add AW1-3 CO's with CO zone bonus
Units
There is many units from AW 1 to 4 such as Dusters, seaplanes (Water Planes), Motorbikes, flares & ects
While AW 1-4 may have those units, COW offer up more unit varieties such as sniper, small boat units & unique units.
Each CO's have their unique units such as Kirov for Air co's Tank Hunter for direct/ground vehicles CO's & ects.
Map Editor
In the Original AW titles you make map by 30x & 30y, while COW allow you make beyond then 30x & 30y e.g 50x & 20y
Modding
Since Original AW title allow peoples to AW hacks and uploaded to WWN or Romhacking site, while COW is difference to AW hacks stuff, since COW is allow people to use JS (Javascript) to create what kind of ideas peoples make such as gameplay mods, custom CO's & ects, since JS is difference to AW hacking tools it might be difficult to bring some ideas from AW hacks into COW gameplay stuff.
If anyone is familar with DOR/DC Co zone, I think if anyone play Masaya Game titles such as Langrisser then you are good to go, if not then here I can explain what does Langrisser mechanic have before DOR/DC.
In original Langrisser games you can hired soldiers (troops), spending hard earn money on equipments, before entering the scenarios.
Each units are have their strength & weakness.
- Infantry units are strong against Pikemen (Lancer) but weak against cavalry units
- Pikemen strong against cavalry units but weak against infantries units
- Cavalry strong against infantry but weak against Pikemen units
But the units in AW is difference.
Each playable heroes you command with each heroes got their own command zone range, while soldier that certain heroes hired will get a small atk & def boost (think of it as a Co board unit with that co zone boost their soldiers battle advantage), original langrisser each heroes got their upgrade class once you choose that upgrade class their command range will increase so your soldiers will get a atk & def upgrade for it, while the remake Langrisser 1&2 it does show you their command stats such as 50% or 100% depends on your heroes equipments, skills & class upgrade.
During the battle if you didn't move of your own soldiers they will move toward your commanders (heroes) that will end their turns.
